On Demand Webinar | Fueling the Future: Insights into the Value Chain of Biogas-Based Biofuels
Watch webinar recording here, and download slides through this link. Biogas-based biofuels are among the few commercially available options to support shipping in its journey towards low-carbon propulsion. Worldwide, thousands of industrial-size biogas plants supply bioenergy to the electrical power grid, the natural gas grid, and to compressed-natural gas fueled trucks. The sector currently experiences intense interest in light of climate and energy supply security concerns. In Europe, the current yearly production of 15 million tonnes is expected to double to 30 million tonnes by 2030. For context, this is ~ 70-80% of the total marine fuel bunkered in European ports in 2023. So far, shipping is having a hard time securing biogas-based biofuels and shipping operators complain of lack of availability of these biofuels. The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping has therefore invited a panel of experts to provide highlights on the current situation, perspectives of future development, and share suggestions with the industry on what operators can do to secure supply and control prices.
